History

Rod started his career in São Paulo with his father Ivo Oliveira, himself a black belt under a very strong professor, Giv Santana. While completing his PhD at the Melbourne Institute of Sport Rod’s been a regular BJJ competitor, referee and coach, as well he’s built a strong following as a swim coach. His expertise in elite sports, experience and passion for teaching makes Rodrigo the perfect leader for our first Melbourne SJJA academy. I think we can all agree that the move to Melbourne is a massive step for the SJJA brand throughout Australia. Providing the people of Melbourne a platform to truly better themselves training the gentle art with an excellent instructor.
